Adding a child

On your family page, press Add a child. You give a first name, an avatar and a PIN of four to six numbers, and you confirm you are the parent or guardian.

Age and grade are both optional, and a child with neither works exactly the same. No date of birth is asked for anywhere, which is deliberate.

We never ask for a child's surname.

Switching between children

Every child has their own tile on the family page, their own PIN, and their own progress. Nothing is shared between them.

Inside a practice session, the button at the top right says Switch child. It takes you back to the family page to choose someone else. On a phone the tile row scrolls sideways if you have several.

More than two children

Two children are included on every family plan. You can add up to four more, which makes six the most a family plan covers.

To be clear about what those numbers mean: they are counts of children, not ages. There is no age limit anywhere in Skhillz Script.

What an additional child costs

So a founding household with four children pays $89.99 plus $74 in its first year. When the plan renews at the standard annual rate, the same household pays $179 plus $160.

How to add one

Fill your existing places first. When the family page shows you are full, a panel appears offering another place, and the button states the price you will actually be charged. Press it and the charge is taken straight away, prorated to your renewal date: a child added in March on an annual plan is charged for March to your renewal, not for a whole year.

At the standard rate, children after the first two are the cheapest per child you can buy:

More than six children? A family plan stops at six on purpose. A homeschool co-op license is priced per student, works out cheaper per child than adding to a family plan, and gives you a roster view built for teaching a group rather than a household screen stretched to fit one. Ask us about one.

If you stop paying for an extra place

Nothing is deleted and nobody is locked out. The children you have set up stay, their work stays, and you simply cannot add another until you buy a place again.

You cannot reduce below the number of children you actually have. Remove the child first if that is what you mean to do, so the decision is made where it is visible rather than discovered later.

Two devices, or a device that went offline

Your child can practice on any device. Whatever is already saved comes down when they open it, so they carry on where they left off.

Where two devices disagree about a letter, the better score always wins. A child cannot lose a passed letter by practicing it badly somewhere else.

If the connection drops mid-session, practice keeps working. The results stay on that device and go up next time it is online. So if work seems missing, open the same device it was done on before assuming it is gone.

The progress page

Progress shows, per child: every letter passed, the three measures described in what the scores mean, which targets took the most tries, and which are still under 70.

It is per child, not per household. Use the child selector at the top.

Cancelling

Cancelling ends the subscription at the end of the period you have paid for.

Your children's work is not deleted when you cancel. Coming back later means picking up where they left off. Deletion happens when you ask for it, not when a payment stops. To cancel or to ask for deletion, write to support@skhillzacademy.org.

Your child's privacy, in one paragraph

Handwriting is scored on your child's own device. We receive the measurements: which letter, how closely the stroke was followed, whether it sat on the line, and when. We never receive or store an image of your child's handwriting. No date of birth is collected, children are shown no advertising, and their information is not sold. The full version is in the Children's Privacy Notice.

If your child also uses Skhillz Script at school, that is a completely separate record belonging to the school. It does not appear here, and your home account does not appear to their teacher.

That also means a teacher's notes about your child at school do not arrive in this account. Ask the school: they can print the whole report, notes included, and a parent has the right to ask to see it.
