Skhillz Academy, LLC
Privacy Policy
Effective September 16, 2026
Effective Date: September 16, 2026 Operator: Skhillz Academy, LLC
Skhillz Academy, LLC (“Skhillz Academy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Skhillz Script™, a digital cursive-writing learning and practice platform used by families, children, educators, professionals, schools, and organizations.
Because Skhillz Script™ is designed for children, protecting children’s information is a central part of this Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and disclose it, how long we retain it, and the choices available to parents, users, and educational institutions.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to personal information processed through the Skhillz Script™ website, application, learner profiles, family accounts, professional and institutional accounts, customer support, subscription administration, and related services.
Additional rules apply to children under 13 and to data received from schools.

2. Information We Collect From Adult Users
We may collect adult account information such as:
- name;
- email address;
- account credentials;
- billing and subscription information;
- account role;
- communication preferences;
- customer-support communications;
- organization or school information where applicable.
Payment-card information may be collected and processed directly by our payment processor. Skhillz Academy does not need to store full payment-card numbers when payment is handled by an approved payment provider.
We also collect information from adults who contact us without holding an account:
- Walkthrough demonstration requests. A first name, an email address, and whether you are a parent, an educator, or something else. You may separately and optionally consent to receiving occasional marketing email from us. That consent is not required to watch the demonstration, and declining it does not withhold anything.
- Licensing enquiries from schools and organizations. A name, an organization name, an email address, the type of organization, an approximate number of learners, a state, and anything you choose to write in the message.
- Affiliate program applications. A legal name, a phone number, a postal address, a self-declared tax classification, and information about the audience you reach. A postal address is collected because commission payments have to be reportable.
We do not collect Social Security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, or bank details from affiliates. Those are collected and verified directly by our payment processor, which is also the party that issues any tax form. We could not accept them if they were sent to us.
3. Information We May Collect About Learners
Depending on the account and enabled features, learner information may include:
- learner first name, nickname, or identifier;
- age range or grade level;
- parent/guardian relationship;
- school, classroom, or group identifiers where applicable;
- cursive letters or lessons accessed;
- practice attempts;
- accuracy and progress measurements derived from handwriting practice, calculated on the learner's own device;
- scoring, match, or accuracy results;
- completion status;
- progress history;
- practice dates and timestamps;
- assignments;
- achievements or instructional progress.
We seek to collect only information reasonably necessary to provide the educational service.
4. Technical and Usage Information
The Skhillz Script application itself does not collect analytics or tracking data, and contains no advertising technology, tag managers, or third-party trackers.
Our hosting and infrastructure providers record limited technical information in their own operational logs, as any internet service does, such as:
- IP address;
- device type;
- operating system;
- browser type;
- session information;
- application events;
- crash and error logs;
- security logs;
- authentication events;
- cookies or similar persistent identifiers used for permitted service operations.
For child users, persistent identifiers are handled subject to COPPA.
We do not use child persistent identifiers for behavioral advertising.
5. Information We Do Not Intentionally Require From Children
Unless a future feature is clearly disclosed and any required consent is obtained, Skhillz Script™ does not require children to provide:
- a personal email address;
- a personal telephone number;
- precise geolocation;
- government-issued identification;
- social-media account credentials;
- payment information.
We do not store images or recordings of a learner’s handwriting. Handwriting is scored on the learner’s own device and only the resulting measurements are transmitted to us. We do not use learner handwriting to create biometric identity profiles or to authenticate a child’s identity.
6. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- create and maintain accounts;
- provide learner profiles;
- deliver cursive instruction and practice;
- process handwriting interactions;
- generate progress and practice feedback;
- display parent, teacher, or administrator dashboards;
- manage subscriptions and licenses;
- authenticate users;
- provide customer support;
- send service-related communications;
- prevent fraud and misuse;
- maintain security;
- troubleshoot and improve reliability;
- comply with legal obligations.
Child information collected through a school-authorized educational use will be used only to provide and support the school-requested educational service and related permitted purposes.
7. COPPA and Children Under 13
For a direct-to-family account, an adult account holder must confirm they are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to the collection described in this Policy before any child profile can be created. That consent is recorded, including when it was given and which version of the Children's Privacy Notice was shown. A child profile cannot be created without it.
Our parent notice explains what child information we collect, how we use it, whether and why it is disclosed, our retention practices, and the parent’s rights.
A parent may consent to the collection and internal use of a child’s information without consenting to a disclosure to a third party for a non-integral purpose where applicable.
Skhillz Script™ does not use children’s personal information for targeted advertising.
We do not condition a child’s participation on disclosing more personal information than is reasonably necessary for the educational activity.
8. School-Authorized COPPA Consent
In some school contexts, a school may be permitted to provide authorization on behalf of a parent for collection of information from a child under 13 when the information is collected solely for the use and benefit of the school and for no unrelated commercial purpose.
When we rely on school authorization:
- we provide the school with the required information about our data practices;
- the information is used for the school-requested educational service;
- we do not use the child’s information for unrelated marketing or behavioral advertising;
- we do not shift our COPPA compliance responsibilities to the school;
- parents may receive access to our Children’s Privacy Notice and may contact us regarding applicable rights.
A school’s ability to provide consent depends on the applicable law and circumstances.
9. FERPA and School Education Records
FERPA generally applies to educational agencies and institutions that receive applicable U.S. Department of Education funding.
Skhillz Academy is not a school merely because it provides an educational service.
When a FERPA-covered school or district provides education records or personally identifiable information from education records to Skhillz Academy under an authorized arrangement, we process that information according to the applicable institutional agreement and the Skhillz Script™ School Data Privacy and FERPA Addendum.
Where we function as a service provider under FERPA’s school-official framework, we will use education-record information only for the authorized institutional purpose and subject to the school’s direct control regarding use and maintenance of those records.
10. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information to service providers that perform functions on our behalf, such as:
- cloud hosting;
- authentication;
- infrastructure;
- payment processing;
- transactional email;
- security;
- technical support;
- data storage;
- service analytics necessary to operate or improve the platform.
Service providers are permitted to process information only for authorized purposes and are expected to maintain appropriate privacy and security protections.
For children’s personal information, disclosure is limited in accordance with COPPA and the parent’s consent choices.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect safety or legal rights, to investigate fraud or security incidents, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to applicable child and student privacy restrictions.
10.1 Skhillz Academy’s Own Administrative Records
Skhillz Script™ is operated by Skhillz Academy, LLC, which also operates the Skhillz Success Portal™ and other Skhillz Academy programs.
Account and subscription records created in Skhillz Script™ are copied into Skhillz Academy’s internal administrative systems, including the staff administration area of the Skhillz Success Portal™, so that one company can administer billing, support, licensing, and renewals for everything it offers from one place. This is an internal transfer within the operator of the service. It is not a disclosure to a separate company, and the information is not sold, rented, or used for advertising.
What is copied is limited to business records about the account:
- the name on the account and the account holder’s email address;
- the plan, the subscription status, the start date, and the renewal date;
- how many children the plan covers and how many are currently active on it, as numbers;
- for an institution, the organization’s name and type, the number of seats licensed, the number of classes, staff, and enrolled students as counts, and the start and end dates of the license;
- licensing inquiries sent to us through our website, including the sender’s name, work email, organization, and message.
What is not copied is any information about a child’s work. No learner’s name, no practice, no attempt, no score, no handwriting, and no login code is placed in those systems.
Access to these administrative records is limited to Skhillz Academy personnel holding an administrative role. They are not visible to other families, to other schools, or to people signing in to the Skhillz Success Portal™ as families or students.
11. No Sale or Targeted Advertising of Children’s Personal Information
We do not sell children’s personal information.
We do not use children’s personal information for targeted or behavioral advertising.
We do not disclose children’s personal information to third parties for their own unrelated marketing.
If we ever propose a materially different practice requiring separate parental consent, we will obtain that consent before implementing the practice for covered children.
12. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to legal, security, accounting, and contractual requirements.
Child Profile, Practice, and Progress Data
Retained while the applicable learner profile or account remains active.
After a verified parent deletion request or account termination requiring deletion, active-system child data will ordinarily be deleted or de-identified within 90 days, unless a shorter period is required by contract or law.
Residual encrypted backup copies may persist for up to 180 days before being overwritten through normal backup cycles, provided they are not restored for ordinary business use.
School Student Data
Retained for the period authorized by the school agreement.
Following termination or a valid school instruction, student data will be returned, deleted, or de-identified according to the applicable School Data Privacy and FERPA Addendum, ordinarily within 90 days unless the institution requires a shorter period.
Account and Customer-Support Data
Retained while the account is active and for up to 24 months afterward where reasonably necessary for account administration, disputes, security, or customer support, unless deletion is requested and no legal reason requires retention.
Enquiries, Demonstration Requests, and Affiliate Applications
Walkthrough demonstration requests are retained while the address remains on the marketing list. If you withdraw marketing consent, the address is removed from that list promptly and ordinarily within 30 days, except where a suppression record must be kept so that we do not email you again by mistake.
Licensing enquiries from schools and organizations are retained for up to 24 months so that a conversation can be picked up where it was left, unless deletion is requested sooner.
Affiliate applications that are declined are ordinarily deleted within 12 months. Approved affiliate records, and the commission and payment records that follow from them, are business and tax records and are kept under the period described immediately below.
Transaction, Tax, and Accounting Records
Certain financial transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years or another period required by law. We do not need to retain a child’s detailed educational practice data merely because a transaction record must be kept.
Security and Technical Logs
Security, fraud-prevention, and operational logs are generally retained for up to 12 months, unless a security incident or legal obligation requires longer retention.
Consent and Compliance Records
We may retain a limited record demonstrating parental consent, withdrawal, deletion requests, or other compliance actions for as long as reasonably necessary to demonstrate legal compliance.
We do not retain children’s personal information indefinitely for speculative future use.
13. Security
We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards reasonably designed to protect personal information.
Our child-data security program is designed to include:
- access controls;
- least-privilege access;
- authentication controls;
- encryption in transit;
- appropriate encryption at rest;
- logging and monitoring;
- vulnerability and patch management;
- service-provider oversight;
- incident-response procedures;
- periodic review of safeguards.
No system can guarantee absolute security.
14. Parent Rights Under COPPA
A verified parent or guardian may request to:
- review personal information collected from their child;
- correct inaccurate information where appropriate;
- delete the child’s personal information;
- refuse further collection or use;
- withdraw previously provided consent.
Withdrawing consent may require us to disable or delete the child profile if the Service cannot operate without the information that was authorized.
To submit a request, contact privacy@skhillzacademy.org.
We may take reasonable steps to verify that the requester is the child’s parent or guardian before providing access to or deleting information.
15. School and Parent Requests
When learner information is maintained on behalf of a school, FERPA-related access, correction, or records requests may need to be directed through the school because the school controls the education record.
We will cooperate with the institution as required by the applicable agreement and law.
A parent may still contact us at privacy@skhillzacademy.org, and we will explain the appropriate process.
16. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies only for authentication and account sessions. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run analytics or tracking technologies in the Service.
We do not use child-user data for cross-site behavioral advertising.
Any analytics or third-party technology used in child-directed areas must be configured consistently with COPPA and this Policy.
17. Communications
Adult account holders may receive account notices, security messages, subscription notices, product or service updates, and requested support communications. These are part of providing the service and are sent whether or not you have consented to marketing.
Marketing email is separate, and is only sent to adults who have asked for it. When you request the walkthrough demonstration you may tick a box to receive occasional email about Skhillz Script™. It is optional, it is not bundled with anything else, and leaving it unticked does not withhold the demonstration or any other part of the service.
You can stop at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by writing to the address in Section 21. Withdrawing marketing consent does not affect account, billing, or security messages, which we must still be able to send you.
We do not sell or rent the marketing list, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Children are not required to provide personal marketing contact information.
18. State Privacy Rights
Depending on where an adult user resides and whether an applicable privacy law covers Skhillz Academy, the user may have additional rights concerning access, correction, deletion, portability, or certain processing of personal information.
Requests may be sent to privacy@skhillzacademy.org.
Nothing in this Policy reduces rights provided by applicable law.
19. International Users
Skhillz Script™ is operated from the United States.
If the Service is offered in additional countries, local privacy requirements may apply. Additional notices or contractual terms may be provided where required.
20. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy.
If a change materially affects how we collect, use, or disclose children’s personal information, we will provide notice and obtain new parental consent where required before applying the materially changed practice to covered child information.
